Amazon shipping fees for sellers in India (2026)
Amazon's weight handling fee explained: Easy Ship vs FBA vs Self Ship rates, regional and national zones, volumetric weight and a worked example.
When Amazon delivers your order, it charges you a shipping fee. Amazon calls it the weight handling fee. How much you pay depends on how you ship, how heavy your parcel is and how far it travels.
Every rate here comes from Amazon’s fees and pricing page, checked 22 October 2026. The rate cards are effective from 16 March 2026.
What is Amazon’s weight handling fee?
It is the fee Amazon charges to deliver your product to the customer. Amazon charges it when you use Easy Ship or FBA, because Amazon does the delivery.
The fee is set per shipment, based on the outbound shipping weight. For FBA, distance matters too. Amazon adds 18% GST on top, like every other fee.
How do Easy Ship, FBA and Self Ship differ?
Amazon offers three ways to ship. They differ in who stores, packs and delivers:
| Method | Who stores and packs | Who delivers | Amazon shipping fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy Ship | You | Amazon | Yes, flat by weight |
| FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) | Amazon, in its warehouse | Amazon | Yes, by weight and distance |
| Self Ship | You | You or your courier | No |
With Self Ship, Amazon says it charges no shipping fee, because you arrange delivery. You pay your courier directly instead. Note that the Self Ship closing fee is higher. Above ₹1,000 it is ₹101, against ₹79 for Easy Ship. See the closing fee guide.
How much is Amazon’s shipping fee?
These are the rates for standard size items at the Standard STEP level, before GST:
| Parcel weight | Easy Ship | FBA regional | FBA national |
|---|---|---|---|
| First 500 g | ₹55 | ₹39 | ₹65 |
| 500 g to 1 kg | ₹75 | ₹54 | ₹85 |
| 1 kg to 2 kg | ₹112 | ₹78 | ₹122 |
| Each extra kg, 2 kg to 5 kg | ₹34 | ₹24 | ₹34 |
| Each extra kg after 5 kg | ₹18 | ₹13 | ₹18 |
Easy Ship is one flat rate across India. FBA has two rates: regional and national.
What are regional and national rates?
The regional rate applies when the parcel moves within one region, but not within the same city. The national rate applies when it moves across regions. Amazon splits India into four regions:
| Region | States and union territories |
|---|---|
| Region 1 | Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh Zone A, Uttarakhand |
| Region 2 | Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra |
| Region 3 | Andaman and Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Lakshadweep |
| Region 4 | Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh Zone B, West Bengal |
Uttar Pradesh Zone B covers the Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Basti, Devipatan, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj and Varanasi divisions. Zone A is the rest of the state.
How is volumetric weight calculated on Amazon?
Amazon charges on actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. The formula is:
Volumetric weight (kg) = Length × Breadth × Height in cm ÷ 5000
For standard size items, the minimum chargeable weight is 500 g.
Example. You ship a cushion in a box of 30 × 20 × 15 cm. It weighs 0.8 kg on the scale.
- Volumetric weight: 30 × 20 × 15 ÷ 5000 = 1.8 kg
- Actual weight: 0.8 kg
- Chargeable weight: the higher one, 1.8 kg
- Easy Ship fee at the Standard level: ₹112, plus GST
On actual weight alone, the fee would be ₹75. The box size costs you ₹37 more on every order. Measure the packed box, not the product.
Does your STEP level change the shipping fee?
Yes. Amazon’s STEP programme puts sellers in levels based on performance, and better levels pay less. For the first 500 g on Easy Ship:
- Premium and Advanced: ₹53
- Standard: ₹55
- Basic: ₹59
New sellers start at the Standard level, so the rates on this page use Standard.
What else does FBA charge?
With FBA, the weight handling fee is only part of it. Amazon also charges:
- Pick and pack: ₹17 per unit for standard items up to 1 kg, more for heavier items.
- Storage: ₹50 per cubic foot per month.
Items over 22.5 kg, and some very long or large items, count as heavy and bulky. They have their own rate card on Amazon’s fee page.
